Thursday, July 8 - Day 25 - 59 Miles - 1801.7 Total Miles

This was a short mileage day as we made our way from our campsite to Fairplay, Colorado (home of the inspiration of South Park). For a short mileage day, it definitely had its ups and downs. The first town we came to was Silverthorne, where we were to pick up a bike path that would take us through Frisco to Breckenridge. Funny thing was-the bike path snaked all over with branches coming off and coming on. Our map had zero explanation of what to do and the path had very few signs. As a result, we were sitting in Frisco at 12:30 and only had 26 miles done. Oh....and the skies were darkening again. Once we made it to Breckenridge, we jumped off the bike path and back on Route 9 and began our climb to Hoosier Pass at 11,542 feet. As we started, skies again looked pretty nasty and the temps were dropping. With about 4 miles to go to the top, we met up with Kim and I put more clothes on...just in case. With a couple of miles left to the top, it began to rain and the temps were in the mid to low 40's. At the top, I got a quick picture at the Pass sign and started the descent. Wet roads, frozen hands, and bumpy roads did not lend itself to a fast descent, so we slowly made our way down to Alma and eventually the three of us rolled into Fairplay...without any idea of where we were going to stay for the evening. Kim again worked her magic and we are staying in The Fairplay Valiton Hotel that is being renovated by a mother and her two sons.

We are planning on a big mileage day tomorrow to get to Pueblo. Brad and Missy Francis gave us money to eat a meal on them on our trip. The catch was that Brad got to pick the restaurant. He came up with one in Pueblo, Colorado. More on that tomorrow.
