Tuesday, July 27 - Day 44 - 86.4 Miles - 3328.9 Total Miles

Hi Friends and Family,

This is Kim again......today's journal will be one of my shorter ones. Steve has spent the last 5 hours trying to figure out our next 2-3 days of mileage and lodging....it is pretty slim pickings in the Appalachian country of Eastern Kentucky. This part of the trip, as mentioned before, is not nearly as much fun as we would like. I volunteered to help him out with the journal tonight, but I still have laundry to get done and plan out my own route for tomorrow!

We stayed in historic Bardstown last evening.....it was beautiful. Steve and I walked downtown to the Old Talbott Tavern for dinner. This is the oldest building in Kentucky....I believe the sign said late 1790's. Several presidents and famous people in history have frequented it's doors and stayed in the lodging above it. The entire town was very colonial looking. We even passed by the oldest cathedral west of the Alleghenies - another beautiful and historic structure.

Today we made it through the rolling hills of mid-Kentucky, ending about 20 miles west of Berea in the middle of nowhere. So we buzzed ahead in the van to Berea to stay for the night, and will head back those 20 miles in the morning. Once we cross under I-75, the Appalachians begin. This will be interesting riding for the guys, and super narrow, hilly roads for me and the kids. The path that this bike trail goes on through the mountains does not utilize the most popular roads. That is good for their overall safety, but there are not a lot of amenities along the way, so the mileage each day, as well as where I am able to meet the guys, is tricky. Thus the reason for the 5 hour planning session.

When we get a chance, we'll put up a few pictures that we received via email from my parents of them and the kids in Branson, as well as Bardstown. But for now, I have got to go change the laundry, and Steve is pretty much "out" for the night! I'm not sure when we'll get WIFI again...hopefully tomorrow night, but that's probably wishful thinking!
